Vacuum formed tools can be produced in a wide range of materials to suit different prototype and production requirements.
A simple prototype tool could be made from wood, rigid foam, or even clay. But, 90% of the tools that we make , are cut from polyurethane modeling boards. Modeling board can be quickly CNC cut into seamless, accurate prototype tools.
Using the latest 3d Solidworks Modelling software, we turn your ideas, drawings, or CAD files into 3d models - which are then directly cnc machined into tooling
Precise Computer modelling of parts and tools ensures a quick and accurate service
Rapid cnc cutting of prototype tooling leads to quick production of prototypes
Production tools are usually made from Aluminium filled resin or cast Aluminium
We are always happy to advise on product design and any constraints within the process. Typically shallow components work better than deep ones. A 3 degree draft angle on the side faces is standard, but not always essential. If possible, pockets and recesses in the tool should be no more than twice as deep as they are wide, this helps stop over stretching of the material. Rounded edges help to maintain the wall thickness and often increase the strength of the part.
Prototype tools are used for small quantities. For larger quantites you need a production tool that survives the heating and cooling process and the stresses of de-moulding. This can be a cast copy of the prototype tool or a newly machined tool.
